HANDS-ON TRAINING preparing you for a CAREER IN Audio POST PRODUCTION

Our Advanced Diploma in Audio Post Production for Film and TV is designed to give you the “real world” skills and confidence to springboard you towards a rewarding career working with motion picture sound. The course has been created in collaboration with award-winning audio engineers and post-production specialists who are working at the forefront of the industry.  You’ll benefit from the experience and expertise of our team and network of industry professionals as well as the important peer to peer learning that prepares you for the collaborative nature of the audio industry. The part-time timetable alongside access to our facilities 7 days a week will enable you to focus your time and energy during class while managing project-based learning in your own time alongside other commitments. This course is taught in person at our facilities in Angel and is not available online.

You’ll develop your practical and technical skills using established industry-standard equipment, including the new state-of-the-art Avid S6 powered Dolby Atmos mix suite located at our new home Angel Recording Studios, featuring immersive ATC monitoring, a dedicated Dolby Atmos Rendering and Mastering Workstation, Pro Tools | HDX, and Pro Tools | MTRX hardware. This will be complemented by dedicated masterclasses in Abbey Road Studios’ Dolby Atmos Mix Stage, delivered by Abbey Road engineers, as well as off-site location recording. The course will enable you to build a thorough understanding of post-production workflows and practices that will give you the confidence to get started on the next step of your career. 

The course requires prior knowledge of sound theory, recording and production techniques, Avid Pro Tools and fundamental knowledge of audio post principles, practice and terminology. You are likely to have already completed a related course in music production and/or sound engineering or be an audio industry professional who wants to specialise in post-production. You’ll leave this course prepared for the workplace, either as an employee of a post-production facility or as a freelancer.

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Understand and employ industry-standard post-production workflows
  • Set loudness, reference monitoring and metering levels to current norms for broadcast, cinema and streaming
  • Prepare projects for mixing 
  • Use Pro Tools and the Avid S6 control surface for post-production tasks
  • Record sound on location
  • Synchronise sound and picture on set and in the studio
  • Record, synthesise and edit sound effects and atmospheres 
  • Recreate sounds that cannot be created on set to enhance audio quality (foley). 
  • Conform and re-conform audio 
  • Record and replace dialogue (ADR)
  • Use industry-standard software to improve the quality of audio recordings (noise reduction)
  • Mix for motion picture in 5.1 surround sound and Dolby Atmos
  • Understand deliverables and perform quality control of finished mixes

*Please note that teaching is delivered in person at our campus in Angel. You will need to attend classes on-site and we encourage you to use the facilities outside of your timetabled classes.
