Back in July, we hosted our Abbey Road Institute Global Graduation 2022 with over 200 students travelling to London from our schools across the world to join the celebrations.
After three years of waiting, it was going to be two meaningful days to mark important achievements and bring us together to celebrate, connect and meet new faces. So, after the traditional diploma ceremony at Abbey Road, we moved on to celebrate and party in one of London’s best live music venues, Scala.
Scala, like Abbey Road and Angel Studios, has its own interesting history and evolution that predates the music venue we see today. Originally opening in 1920 as the Kings Cross Cinema, the building changed names and ownership numerous times. It was maintained as a cinema until the 1970s when it hosted it’s first live music performances, with Iggy Pop and Hawkwind, as it was transformed into an all-night rock venue. The space went on to close and reopen multiple times. The venue faced various controversies over the years, including being petitioned by local residents in the mid-70s and another closure again in 1993 after an illegal screening of Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange. It then went through a radical transformation in the 1990s and reopened in 1999 as the vibrant music venue we know now.
We love a venue with an atmosphere and a story. Perfect for a party. And, it was a memorable night, letting our hair down with students, graduates, guests, alumni (including some familiar faces from our very first intake!) and the teams from all of our Institutes. Big shout out to everyone who travelled from overseas, especially our far-flung crew from Australia. 24 hours of travel to be there didn’t go unnoticed.
Not only did we see new friendships formed that evening, but we also captured some epic pictures. You can’t have a party without a photo booth, right?
We’ve selected a few of our favourite and unforgettable fun photos. Check out some of the crazy props and silly faces that made our photo booth highlights. We’ll have to keep to ourselves who the biggest photobomber of the night was…… enjoy!
