Alex Scannell
Alex Scannell was an engineer at Abbey Road Studios for over 10 years. During his tenure, Alex engineered across all genres of music, from recording symphony orchestras to bands and everything in between. Being able to have access to the peerless equipment available at the studio, Alex dug deep into the studio’s history. He was recording full projects using nothing but analogue signal chains of priceless equipment, valve mics, 2″ Tape machines and gear such as the TGmk2 desk.
On leaving Abbey Road, Alex set up a location recording business Audio Spark mobile. He has recorded or mixing projects for clients such as The Divine Comedy, Beverley Knight, Professor Green, The BBC, The Manic Street Preachers, Ed Sheeran and Ray Davies.
Alex regularly brings his knowledge and expertise back to Abbey Road Institute through workshops with our students, usually held in Studio Three. He shares his experience on the importance of getting things right from the beginning and avoiding commonly unconsidered pitfalls in a recording. “Being involved with Abbey Road Institute is amazing. It gives me an immediately practical way to pass this passion and knowledge on to the students”.
