Global Graduation Ceremony 2018 Highlights
Graduation ceremony 2018 at Abbey Road Studios
On Friday 26th October we were excited to be celebrating our annual global graduation ceremony at Abbey Road Studios. Our staff and music production students, gathered together alongside family, friends and our industry guests to recognise and celebrate the culmination of 12 months of hard work.
This is the second of our global events which bring graduates to London from all of our schools, from Amsterdam, Berlin, Frankfurt and Paris, to our far-flung campus in Melbourne, Australia and of course London itself. It’s a unique opportunity for students and staff alike and without a doubt one of the highlights in our academic calendar.
On stage in Studio Two
The day kicked off with a welcome to students, their families and personal guests from our CEO, Luca Barassi. Luca set the scene for the day, acknowledging the hard work and dedication from our students that precedes the graduation.
The afternoon continued with each of our graduating students being invited up on stage to receive their diplomas in Studio Two. The same studio made famous by the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Kate Bush and many, many more. It’s a unique experience to be part of the history of the studio and walk in the footsteps of so many greats in recording and the music industry as a whole.
In the evening we were joined by our industry friends in Studio One with a warm welcome from London graduate Ramera Abraham. Addressing her fellow graduates ‘Each one of us came here for one thing: opportunity – and I can say, after spending the year with you, that we have grabbed opportunity by the reigns and taken charge.’
Ramera welcomed to the stage two of our most respected advocates Isabel Garvey, Managing Director of Abbey Road Studios and David Sharpe, Chief Operating Officer for Universal Music UK. They took the time to reflect on the achievements of our growing alumni network and offered advice and guidance to our students now joining them in the music industry.
The inspiring words were followed by a performance from up and coming singer-songwriter Rhys Lewis who’s signed to Universal Music. Rhys’s performance rounded off the evening on a high.
One of our London graduates, Matias Di Stefano, shared his feelings about the day ‘The graduation has been such an intense and emotional day, having my family here from abroad, with the chance to meet my classmates and discussing our current and upcoming projects. Being in the place where we spent the last 365 days together working hard was just the cherry on top!’
On behalf of the graduates from all of our schools, a huge thanks to all of the alumni, families, friends, industry guests and the team at Abbey Road for a fantastic celebration and here’s to watching what our graduates go onto achieve next!
