Laura Iredale
Laura Iredale joined our Music Production Diploma with an extensive background in music having undertaken a Music BA at Nottingham University, with a focus on composition, then working in education as Head of Music at a high school. Laura is also establishing herself as a freelancer, both as a sound editor at Molinare Post Production and a mix engineer for a podcast series called Our Voices. The podcast series tells personal stories covering topics such as the NHS, lockdown and mental health – and (one-off project) composer for recent Crossline Theatre production of Friday Night Love Story.
Her work in the field of post-production is primarily as a sound effects editor and sound designer. This includes selecting and editing sounds for spots, atmos, anything to make the place in a given scene sound like it would in real life. For the Our Voices podcast, Laura is typically provided with a Voice Over and interview. She then cleans the dialogue, integrates the podcast intro and outros, chooses the music that will add to the storytelling and pacing of the episode, then bring all the elements together in the mix, followed by mastering and then delivering the final edit.
Some of Laura’s highlights so far include working on a JK Rowling audiobook ‘The Christmas Pig’ (sound design and effects), and sound design/sound effects editing on The Outlaws, a Stephen Merchant series on the BBC.
Laura’s long term career goals are to pursue a career in film sound, in particular film scoring, ideally moving into the role of composer assistant. Find out more about Laura in her interview on our blog where she discusses collaboration and scoring for film.
